PUEBLA
ARTS & CRAFTS
One of the first industries established in the city was pottery with the same characteristics as that produced in the Spanish town of Talavera de la Reina: white clay, blue designs and a glazed finish. Although the technique shows a clear Oriental influence, over time its motifs gradually became more Mexicanized while the range of colors was expanded to include the yellows, greens and reds we know today. Nowadays, this is still one of the finest types of Mexican handicrafts available and the fact that it is hand-made means that pieces can be made to order. The pottery firms usually offer to deal with the shipping and handling.

CUISINE
Since you have to eat anyway, we suggest you take advantage of your stay here to discover another of Puebla’s art forms-its cooking. This city produced the famous mole (that unusual sauce made from over twenty ingredients from three continents) and the delicious chilies in walnut sauce (which are not at all fiery), as well as eggnog, cider, liqueurs and delicious traditional sweets that are also a feast for the eye. Puebla’s cuisine is a blend of Spanish and Oriental flavors, spices, condiments and ingredients enriched with maize, turkey, chili and tomato and the skill of the local cooks who continue to create and have developed an exquisite new Mexican cuisine
