PERFORMING ARTS
The shows and concerts available in Morelia are closely linked to the music presented at the three main festivals that take place in the months on March, May and July and that include performances by internationally known artists. The main musical instruments played at the concerts or recitals are the guitar and the Cathedral organ that features prominently during the International Organ Festival.

International Organ Festival
International Organ Festival, with performers from various parts of the world. The festival is held in Morelia Cathedral, using the monumental organ built expressly for the cathedral during the colonial period.

Morelos’ Birthday
Morelos’ Birthday is celebrated on the 29th with a civic-military parade, followed by a pilgrimage, bullfight, sporting and cultural events, a fireworks set piece and bands.

Templo & Conservatorio de las Rosas
Baroque construction erected in the 18th century. The School of Music was established there in the late 1940´s and it currently houses the Morelia Boys’ Choir. Set on the corner of Eduardo Ruiz and “Nigromante”.

The Feast of the Conception
The Feast of the Conception is celebrated in the Templo de la Inmaculada on the 8th. An outdoor fair is organized, with music, paintings, sporting events and firework set pieces, lasting for three months.

The International Music Festival
The International Music Festival, which attracts outstanding performers of classical and contemporary music, is held during the last two weeks of July.

FESTIVALS
The colorful festivals celebrated at different moments of the year are part of the Michoacán culture. The Carnival of music and dance is an absolute must. Other festivals include the state Expo Fair, the International Organ Festival, the International Music Festival and the Independence Day , Morelos’ birthday and the Immaculate Conception celebrations.

Carnaval
Like most other places in the state, Morelia celebrates the Carnival with dances, parades and the traditional “cardboard bull figures” that move in time with the music as they make their way through the streets.

Expo State Fair
Expo State Fair. Craft, cattle, commercial and industrial display. Music and dance shows, amusement rides and traditional groups. Held from the last Sunday in April to the third Sunday in May.

The Shout of Independence is celebrated on the 15th and 16th in a ceremony at the Palacio de Gobierno, with a street party, stalls and fireworks. A civic and military parade is held on the 16th.
