HISTORICAL SITES
The Monumento del Pipila was erected in honor of Juan José de los Reyes Martínez, nicknamed “El Pípila” who fought for Mexico’s Independence. He enabled Hidalgo’s forces to seize the Alhóndiga de Granaditas by setting fire to the door, after covering his back with a heavy stone. The monument commands a superb view of the city.

Dolores Hidalgo
The cradle of Mexican independence boasts attractions such as the House of don Miguel Hidalgo, displaying objects that once belonged to this independence leader, the Museum of Independence, the House of Abasolo, the Parish Church of Our Lady of Dolores and the house of José Alfredo Jiménez, the well-known composer of vernacular music.

Jardín del Cantador
Leafy park built in the 19th century and named in honor of the legend of a singer who lived during the colonial era.

Museo de Alhóndiga de Granaditas
Building where El Pípila performed his heroic feat, containing various documents, paintings and historical objects.

Plaza de Baratillo
Named after the market that used to held on Sundays, where traders used to hawk their wares. The center of the square contains a Florentine fountain.

San Miguel de Allende
Colonial city whose architectural and historical features make it one of Mexico¿s most popular tourist resorts. It was the birthplace of independence leaders such as Ignacio Allende. Places of interest include the main garden, the Parroquia de San Miguel, the Casa de Allende, the Casa del Mayorazgo de la Canal, the Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramírez, “El Nigromante,” The Instituto Ignacio Allende and the Casa de Loreto. 94 km outside Guanajuato.

Templo de la Compañía
Construction of this Jesuit church with its churrigueresque facade was begun in 1747 and completed in 1765. The paintings in the interior were recently restored.

Templo y Plazuela de San Roque
This church with its sober baroque facade dates from 1726. Since 1953, the Entremeses Cervantinos that gave rise to the famous International Cervantes Festival have been performed in the square.

GOLF
Although the topographical features of Guanajuato City make it difficult to build golf courses, you can enjoy a game of golf in the nearby cities of Celaya, León and Irapuato.

Club Campestre de Celaya
Set in the city of Celaya, it is a modern sports club with installations for several sports. The golf course has 18 holes par 72 with a 6785 yard course.

You can rent golf clubs and take lessons here; caddy service is also available.

Club de Golf Santa Margarita
Set in the nearby city of Irapuato, a strawberry producing center, it has 18 holes par 72 and a 6846 yard course.

Club Vergel de la Sierra
The Club Vergel de la Sierra is located in León and offers several services such as equipment rental and golf lessons.

Country Club Los Naranjos
This country club is located in the city of León. The golf course has 9 holes and it offers a variety of different services.

Alamo Country Club
The Alamo Country Club and Golf Course is located in Celaya. Golf professionals give lessons from 7:00 to 19:00 hours.
