GOLF
There are five good places to play golf in Guadalajara: The Atlas Country Club; Las Cañadas Country Club; Guadalajara Country Club; the El Palomar Country Club and the Santa Anita Golf Club.
This golf course has a surface area of 71,734 square meters and is located 35 minutes from the city of Guadalajara.
Club de Golf Santa Anita
This semi-flat course has 18 holes and is open all week from 9:00 to 18:00 hours. It is a private club, but visitors are welcome on weekdays as long as they have made a reservation.
Guadalajara Golf Club
This 18-hole course is located 3 km from the city of Guadalajara, on the Guadalajara-Torrelaguna highway.
Las Cañadas Country Club
Arrangements for playing at the Las Cañadas Country Club can be made through the leading hotels in the area.
Palomar Country Club
The Palomar Country Club is one of the newest golf clubs in Mexico and has a splendid view of the city. Although this 18-hole course is privately owned, it has facilities for visitors through agreements made with hotels such as the Quinta Real, the Camino Real and the Presidente Intercontinental.
ECOTOURISM
The Sierra de Manantlán Biosphere Reserve is located a little over 200 km southwest of Guadalajara. This is a mountainous area with a wide variety of flora consisting of endemic plants and another two thousand species that can be found in the pine and oak forests, the mesophyll mountain forest, the low density jungle and the thorny underbrush in this Reserve. The closest towns are Autlán de Navarro, Ahuacapán and Minatitlán, in the state of Colima.
Sierra de Manantlán Biosphere Reserve
More than 139,000 hectares of the rugged Sierra de Manantlán are protected areas. This reserve is covered in oak, pine, and mountain mesophyll forests and medium- and low-density jungle that is inhabited by birds, mammals. Of particular interest is the rare species of perennial corn plant that grows here; this species of corn is in danger of extinction.
Water Sports
The best place for water sports, especially skiing, is Lake Chapala that has a surface of 1,080 square km. The lake is the popular spot for weekenders from Guadalajara, only 48 km away, but if your favorite sport is swimming, there are several natural springs with thermal waters near the state capital such as Los Camachos, Agua Caliente and Chimulco, among other attractions where you can indulge your favorite pastime.
